Bender commits to Cougars
r
REGINA, Sask. – University of Regina men's hockey head coach Blaine Sautner announced Tuesday that former Regina Pats defenceman Ryan Bender has committed to the Cougars and will suit up for the U of R beginning this fall.
r
"Ryan is an important addition to our hockey program," Sautner said.
r"Being a five-year WHL veteran and a former captain of the Kamloops Blazers, he brings great leadership qualities. Ryan's grit and toughness will give us the added depth to our already strong defence."
r
Bender played 309 career regular season games in the WHL. 279 of those games were in a Blazers uniform and the other 30 were with the Regina Pats after being traded last January. He scored eight goals and added 21 assists for 29 career points.
r
In 16 career playoff games, Bender recorded three assists and 30 penalty minutes.
r
Bender is the team's first recruit for the 2008-09 season.
