Svozil invited to Czechia Men’s National Team Camp
Brno, CZE – Czech Ice Hockey announced Thursday that Regina Pats defenceman Stanislav Svozil was one of five new players invited to their training camp in preparation for the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
Svozil, 20, became the 164th Regina Pats player all-time to reach the NHL, making his debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 13 against the Pittsburgh Penguins where he picked up an assist on the clubs tying goal for his first career NHL point. He also played one game with their AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, recording two assists in one contest.
The Blue Jackets 2021 third-round pick finished the regular season top-3 in the WHL amongst defencemen in numerous categories. He ranked first in power play assists (36), second in assists (67), second in points per-game (1.39), and third in points (78), all while playing in just 56 games.
The Prerov, Czechia product finished the year with 24 multi-point games, including four four-point efforts. Svozil’s 78 points were the 10th-highest single season point total by a Pats defenceman in franchise history.
His 67 assists are tied for the fifth-highest all-time and his 1.39 points-per-game rank 4th all-time in Pats history. Svozil joined Connor Hobbs (2016-17) as the only two Pats defencemen in the last 25 years to reach 70+ points.
In the playoffs, Svozil recorded 13 points (4G-9A) in seven games, finishing second amongst all skaters in first-round scoring.
Czechia’s camp begins on Monday April 24 in Brno, Czech Republic and will go on for roughly two weeks. The tournament will take place from May 12 – 28 in Finland and Latvia. Czechia will play in Group B in the city of Riga which is the capital of Latvia with seven other teams; Canada, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland. Czechia will begin action on May 12 against Slovakia.
