PREVIEW: The start stretch of four games in six days

The Regina Pats continue their B.C. road trip tonight against the Victoria Royals as this contest will be the start of four games in six nights.
The Pats hit the ice for an afternoon practice on Monday in Victoria in preparation for Tuesday’s action. The Pats have dropped their last six games and are 0-2 to begin this road trip after a 9-1 loss on Saturday to the Kelowna Rockets. Tye Spencer scored the Pats only goal. Ewan Huet allowed five goals on nine shots in the opening period, and Kelton Pyne played the final 40 minutes, giving up four goals on 22 shots. The final shots were 31-27 for the Rockets. The Pats were 0-3 on their power play and 1-2 on their penalty kill.
The Victoria Royals finished the 2023-24 season with a 29-30-5-4 record and 67 points, which was seventh in the Western Conference. The Royals were swept by the Portland Winterhawks in round one.
This season, the Royals are second in the Western Conference with 33 points, and have won two of their last three games. They are coming off a 6-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds Keaton Verhoeff scored twice and Cole Reschny tallied three assists. Brayden Boehm added three points (1G-2A) and Jayden Kraus made 19 saves. The final shots were 37-20 for the Royals. Victoria finished 2-7 on their power play and 3-4 on their penalty kill.
WHO TO WATCH
The Pats are still integrating several new players into their systems with lots of moving parts as of late. Reese Hamilton and Julien Maze practiced with the team for the first time and will look to help turn the ship around tonight.
For the Royals, Keaton Verhoeff has had an impressive start to the 2024-25 season with nine goals and 18 points in 22 games which ranks second amongst all rookie defencemen behind Landon DuPont of the Everett Silvertips.
COMING UP
The Regina Pats will ferry back to the lower mainland on Wednesday and battle the Vancouver Giants with puck drop scheduled for 9:00 p.m., CST. The Pats will then travel north for a matchup with the Prince George Cougars on Friday. The Pats will end their road trip in Edmonton on Sunday, December 8.
