RECAP: Pue’s Hat Trick Powers Pats Past Warriors In Six-Goal Second Period
Regina, Sask. — Liam Pue recorded a career-high four points, including his second hat trick of the season, as the Regina Pats erupted for six second-period goals to defeat the rival Moose Jaw Warriors 6-2 at the Brandt Centre.
The Pats improved to 6-4-0-1 overall and remained perfect at home with a 5-0 record, outscoring opponents 29-6 in those contests. Regina twice erased one-goal deficits to earn its first comeback victory of the season and first win when allowing the opening goal.
Pue led the attack with three goals and an assist, while Reese Hamilton picked up a pair of assists and Samuel Karsay collected three assists. Ossi Tukio, Zach Moore and Zachary Lansard rounded out the scoring, and Taylor Tabashniuk turned aside 19 of 21 shots for the victory.
Following a scoreless opening period, Moose Jaw struck 49 seconds into the second when Rasmus Kamarainen finished a three-on-one rush. Tukio answered on the power play at 5:08, taking a feed from Hamilton at the top of the right circle and firing a shot past Jordan Switzer. The Warriors regained the lead at 7:44 when Riley Thorpe redirected Mathieu Lajoie’s pass past Tabashniuk.
From there, Regina took control with five unanswered goals. Pue tied the game at 11:21, bursting through centre ice before snapping a wrist shot over Switzer’s blocker. Moore then put the Pats ahead on the power play at 13:52, firing a shot from the bottom of the left circle that deflected off a stick and into the net.
The Pats broke the game open with three goals in a 1:02 span late in the frame. Pue beat a screened Switzer from long range at 18:37, then completed his hat trick just 29 seconds later, converting a feed from Karsay by lifting the puck over the diving goaltender. Lansard capped the outburst at 19:39, taking an outlet pass from Dayton Deschamps and carrying the puck into the offensive zone before ripping a shot past Switzer.
Regina outshot Moose Jaw 20-6 in the second period and 33-21 overall. Neither team scored in the third as the Pats secured their second straight victory, following Wednesday’s 6-0 win over Seattle with another dominant middle frame.
The Pats finished 2-for-5 on the power play and killed all three Warriors opportunities, keeping their home penalty kill perfect at 21-for-21 this season. Switzer finished with 27 saves for Moose Jaw.
