GAME PREVIEW
Regina enters the night ninth in the Eastern Conference with 43 points, sitting just one point back of eighth-place Red Deer Rebels (44 points) and two points behind the Warriors, who currently hold seventh with 45. With the standings tightly packed, tonight’s matchup carries major implications for all three clubs in the playoff race.
The Pats come in riding momentum after back-to-back victories, including a 4–2 win over Moose Jaw on Friday at the Brandt Centre. That victory improved Regina to 5-0-1 against the Warriors this season. Dayce Derkatch scored the decisive goal to give the Pats a 3–1 lead in the second period, while Jace Egland, Ephram McNutt, and Reese Hamilton each recorded a goal and an assist. Marek Schlenker was solid in net, turning aside 28 of 30 shots as Regina outshot Moose Jaw 30–27. The Pats went 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Warriors were 2-for-6 with the man advantage.
For the Warriors, Landen McFadden scored twice, with both on the power play, increasing his team lead with now 26 goals this season.
WHO TO WATCH
Keep an eye on Regina’s third line of Dayce Derkatch, Jace Egland, and Zach Moore, which was dominant on Friday. The trio combined for a +9 rating, with Derkatch and Egland each finding the back of the net and Moore adding an assist. All three finished +3, providing strong shutdown minutes while chipping in offensively. Derkatch now has goals in two of his last three games, while Egland’s 1G-1A performance marked his first multi-point outing of the season.
The Pats also saw key contributions from Ephram McNutt and Reese Hamilton, who both posted 1G-1A nights.
COMING UP
The Regina Pats return home to begin a four-game homestand as they host the Swift Current Broncos on Monday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre.
Regina will play four of its next five games on home ice, with a busy weekend ahead as the Blue Brigade welcomes the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Penticton Vees to close out the homestand.
