PREVIEW
The Pats are coming off an exciting 5-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday, breaking their nine game skid. Local products Kelton Pyne and Kolten Bridgeman were the heros. Pyne made 30 saves, and Bridgeman scored the deciding goal late in the second stanza. Zach Pantelakis (1G-2A), Ephram McNutt, Matt Paranych (1G-1A) and Ashton Brown rounded out the scoring.
The final shots were 32-24 for the Broncos. The Pats were 0-1 on their power play and 4-5 on their penalty kill. The Pats scored five or more goals for the eighth time this season, and finished their six game season series 3-3 against the Broncos.
Meanwhile, the Brandon Wheat Kings are fighting for playoff position, and are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday which broke their three game winning-streak. Luke Shipley scored Brandon’s only tally while Carson Bjarnason made 26 saves. The final shots were 34-27 for the Wheat Kings. Both teams were 0-3 on their power plays.
As of tonight, the Wheat Kings are sixth in the East with 79 points, which is two points back of the Saskatoon Blades for second in the conference and first in the division.
WHO TO WATCH
Zach Pantelakis has been red hot as of late for the Regiment. The North Vancouver, B.C., product has five points (3G-2A) over his last three games following a career-high three points (1G-2A) on Tuesday versus Swift Current. Meanwhile, Pats 17-year-old defenceman Matt Paranych has seven points (2G-5A) over his last seven games. The Edmonton product had two points (1G-1A) on Tuesday, and leads all Pats defencemen in goals with seven.
20-year-old players Nolan Flamand, Marcus Nguyen and Luke Shipley will be playing their final game on home ice tonight for the Wheat Kings. Flamand leads Brandon with 67 points (23G-44A) in 65 games. Meanwhile, Nguyen leads the team in goals with 34, and Shipley leads all Wheat Kings defencemen with 55 points (18G-37A) in 58 games.
