9 Former Pats In Calder Cup Playoffs
Regina, Sask. — Nine Regina Pats alumni are currently on AHL rosters competing in the 2022 Calder Cup playoffs.
Dawson Barteaux – Texas Stars
Barteaux, 22, is currently in round one against the Rockford IceHogs. The Foxwarren, Man. native split time between the Texas Stars and Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) this season, combining for 11 points (1G-10A) in 41 games. The 6-foot-1, 185 lb. defenceman played just 18 games for the Pats during the 2016-17 season before being traded to the Red Deer Rebels in a package that sent Josh Mahura to the Pats.
Brandon Davidson – Rochester Americans
Davidson, 30, is in the midst of a first-round matchup with the Belleville Senators. The Lethbridge, Alta. native was an alternate captain for the Ams this season, scoring six points (1G-5A) in 23 games. The 6-foot-2, 209 lb. defenceman played for the Pats from 2009-2012, captaining Regina during the 2011-12 season. He has a good amount of NHL experience over his 10-year pro hockey career, playing in 180 combined NHL games for the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadians, New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres.
Ryker Evans – Charlotte Checkers
Evans, 20, signed a three-year entry level contract with the Seattle Kraken on April 22 and was assigned to the Kraken’s AHL affiliate on May 3 for the Calder Cup playoffs. The Calgary, Alta. native has yet to play a game with the Checkers, who begin the Atlantic Division Semifinals against the Bridgeport Islanders on Tuesday. The former Kraken second-round pick in 2021 just finished a four-year WHL career with the Pats where he totalled 131 points (25G-106A) in 195 career games. This past season, the 6-foot, 191 lb. defenceman scored 61 points (14G-47A) in 63 games, ranking seventh amongst all WHL defencemen in points.
Cale Fleury – Charlotte Checkers
Fleury, 23, helped the Checkers to a bye in round one after they finished this season with a 43-23-6-3 record. The Calgary, Alta. native split time between the Seattle Kraken and the Checkers this season, playing nine games with Seattle and 58 games with Charlotte, scoring 33 points (7G-26A). The 6-foot-1, 205 lb. defenceman played for the Pats during the 2017-18 season, producing 41 points (6G-35A) in 51 games.
Jake Leschyshyn – Henderson Silver Knights
Leschyshyn, 23, is currently underway in round one of the Calder Cup Playoffs as the Henderson Silver Knights play the Colorado Eagles in a best-of-three series. The Saskatoon native split time between the Vegas Golden Knights and Henderson this season. With Vegas, he scored six points (2G-4A) in 41 games, while with Henderson, he tallied 27 points (14G-13A) in 34 games. The 5-foot-11, 199 lb. forward played for the Pats from 2015-2019, where he was the Pats captain in 2018-19 season before being traded to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a number of players and draft picks — one of which turned into the pick that selected Connor Bedard first overall in 2020.
Garrett Mitchell – Rockford IceHogs
Mitchell, 30, is in his 11th season of professional hockey, and his sixth Calder Cup Playoffs, as the Rockford IceHogs take on the Texas Stars in round one. The Regina, Sask. native captained the IceHogs for a second straight season, scoring 15 points (6G-9A) in 67 games this season. The 5-foot-11, 196 lb. forward played for the Pats from 2007-2011, captaining Regina during the 2010-11 season.
Logan Nijhoff – San Diego Gulls
Nijhoff, 20, did not play in a playoff game, but was on San Diego’s playoff roster, as the Gulls were eliminated by the Ontario Reign in their best-of-three series on Thursday night. The Comox Valley, B.C. native just completed his fifth and final season with the Pats, scoring 49 points (25G-24A) in 57 games, earning a two-year AHL deal with the Gulls on April 8. The 6-foot, 190 lb. forward played 231 games with the Pats (61G-62A) from 2017-2022. He made his AHL debut on April 26 and finished with three regular season games under his belt.
Austin Wagner – Ontario Reign
Wagner, 24, helped the Ontario Reign sweep the Gulls in round one, recording two points (1G-1A) in two games. The Calgary, Alta. native spent the full season with Ontario, scoring 22 points (14G-9A) in 55 games after he played two previous full seasons in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings. The 6-foot-2, 185 lb. forward played for the Pats from 2013-2017, scoring 169 career points (79G-90A) in 238 career games.
Colby Williams – Belleville Senators
Williams, 27, is playing in a first-round matchup between the Belleville Senators and Rochester Americans. The Regina, Sask. native is in his second season with the Senators after he played four previous seasons with the Hershey Bears. This season, he tallied eight points (2G-6A) in 51 games. The 6-foot, 200 lb. defenceman played for the Pats from 2012-2016, serving as Regina’s captain during the 2015-16 season.
