GAME DAY: Hurricanes Take On Rebels in First Meeting
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continue their three-game in four day long weekend tonight at 7:00pm as they visit the Red Deer Rebels at Peavey Mart Centrium.
The Hurricanes (4-1-0-0) enter after earning a convincing 4-0 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors last night at the ENMAX Centre. Tyson Zimmer, Chase Pauls, Logan McCutcheon and Brayden Edwards scored in the win while Harrison Meneghin made 26-saves for his second career shutout. Lethbridge improved to 2-0-0-0 at home on the season. The ‘Canes enter with a 2-1-0-0 road record so far this year as four of their next five games will be away from home.
The Rebels (1-3-0-0) have lost their last two outings after suffering a 6-2 loss on Friday to the hands of the Prince Albert Raiders. Carson Latimer scored both Rebel goals in the defeat while Chase Wutzke and Rhett Stoesser split time in the crease. Red Deer outshot Prince Albert 35-26 in the contest. The Rebels enter tonight with an 0-3-0-0 record at home so far this season.
Tonight will be the first of six meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels. Last year, the ‘Canes posted a 2-3-1-0 record while going 0-3-0-0 in Red Deer. The game can be streamed on WHL Live, watched at Browns Socialhouse in Lethbridge or heard on 106.7 ROCK.

VS. REBELS: Tonight will be the first of six meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels. Lethbridge posted a 2-3-1-0 record in six contests against Red Deer during the 2022-2023 season. In the last 51 regular season games dating back to February of 2015, the Hurricanes have posted a 35-12-4-1 record against the Rebels. Thru 5: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 4-1-0-0 record (8 points) on the season after five games. The ‘Canes are 2-0-0-0 at home and 2-1-0-0 on the road so far this season. In 2022-2023, the Hurricanes had posted a 2-3-0-0 record after five games.
Perfect September: The Hurricanes started the season winning all three games in the month of September to start the year with three straight victories. It was the first time since 2008-2009 that the ‘Canes started a season with a perfect 3-0-0-0 record. Lethbridge has posted a 1-1-0-0 record so far in October.
Balanced Attack: After five games on the season, the Hurricanes have scored a total of 20 goals for an average of 4.00 goals per game. Last year, Lethbridge averaged 2.96 goals per game. A total of 10 players have recorded three-or-more points so far while all but one skater has at least a point.

Canada Coach: Hurricanes Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt was named as an Assistant Coach for Hockey Canada for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Anholt will serve on the coaching staff for Canada Red in Prince Edward Island from November 2-11. It is the second straight season the ‘Canes have had a coach for the U17’s after Ryan Aasman was a Video Coach last year.
Big 3 Return: The Hurricanes received their big-3 defencemen back as Joe Arntsen, Chase Pauls and Noah Chadwick all returned from NHL Training Camps. Arntsen attended New York Rangers camp, Pauls attended Los Angeles Kings camp while Chadwick was at the Toronto Maple Leafs camp.
Great Start: After returning from the Minnesota Wild’s Training Camp, goaltender Harrison Meneghin has been tremendous for the Hurricanes. The South Surrey, BC, product has posted a 4-0-0-0 record in four starts posting a 1.47 goals against average and a .953 saves percentage with one shutout.
Gone Pro: On August 10th, the Hurricanes announced that Brent Kisio resigned as head coach after eight years at the helm to accept an assistant coaching job with the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League. Kisio left the ‘Canes as the winningest coach in team history posting a 267-176-44 regular season record while qualifying for the playoffs each season.
New Bench Boss: The Hurricanes announced Bill Peters the 15th head coach in team history on August 30th. Peters, who has served as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames, returns to the WHL for the first time since 2008. He helped guide the Spokane Chiefs to a WHL and Memorial Cup Championship in 2008 before going to professional hockey. He has posted a 115-93-13 record in the WHL.
