The Brantford Bulldogs have acquired forward Sam Roberts from the Oshawa Generals in exchange for four future OHL Priority Selection picks.

Oshawa receives London’s third-round selection in 2027, Peterborough’s fourth-round selection in 2028, Guelph’s fifth-round selection in 2029 and Brantford’s conditional 15th-round selection in 2030.

Roberts, a 17-year-old native of Uxbridge, ON, was selected by the Generals in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound right-winger appeared in 55 games during his rookie OHL season in 2025-26, recording four goals and five assists for nine points. He has added three assists through seven games to begin the 2026-27 campaign.

“We loved Sam throughout the draft process,” said Bulldogs President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Spencer Hyman. “He’s a big, heavy power forward who can skate and score goals in the paint, and he has the ability to be a core piece of the Bulldogs now and into the future. He adds to our incredible 2009-born group, and we’re excited to watch them grow together for years to come. Beyond what he brings on the ice, Sam is an amazing human being, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Bulldogs family.”

Before entering the OHL, Roberts played for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 AAA program, recording 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 33 games during the 2024-25 season. He added four points in seven games as the Jr. Canadiens captured the 2025 OHL Cup.

Roberts also represented Canada White at the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, registering two goals and two assists in five games while helping Canada earn a silver medal. He played alongside fellow Bulldogs newcomer Kaden McGregor during the tournament.

The acquisition gives Brantford four players selected in the first round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection. Roberts joins McGregor, the first overall pick, Aleksandr Sementsov, selected 18th overall, and David Buchman, whom the Bulldogs selected 20th overall.

The move also brings Roberts into familiar surroundings. His older brother, Noah Roberts, previously played for the Bulldogs, while his father, Gary Roberts, serves as the club’s Vice President of Hockey Operations.

Roberts is expected to make his Brantford debut Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs host the Ottawa 67’s at 4:00 p.m., opening a Thanksgiving weekend home back-to-back.
