67’s reveal helmet decal in support of Matthew Mayich
The Ottawa 67’s have announced that they will wear Matthew Mayich’s initials on their helmets for the remainder of the season as a show of support for Matthew and his family.
The team debuted the decals on September 27th against the Sarnia Sting, who joined Ottawa in showing their support by adding the initials to their helmets.
Matthew has been in hospital since the end of August following an off-ice training incident in Arizona while preparing for the 2026-27 season.
A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Mayich was selected 74th overall by the Ottawa 67’s in the fourth round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection and later chosen 170th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft. He spent all four seasons of his OHL career with the 67’s, recording 99 points (21-78–99) across 256 regular-season games. He also served as an alternate captain during his final two seasons with the club.
The Ontario Hockey League continues to extend its thoughts and support to the former Ottawa 67’s defenceman and his family.
“Our thoughts are with Matthew, his parents John and Christina and the entire Mayich family,” said OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford. “Matthew spent four seasons in our league and earned the respect of everyone he played with and against. The entire Ontario Hockey League is thinking of him and pulling for him, and we are keeping his family close in our thoughts.”
