Mike Farwell named play-by-play voice of the Rangers on FM 98.5 (CKWR)
KITCHENER, ON — The Kitchener Rangers and FM 985 (CKWR) have announced that Mike Farwell will be the radio play-by-play voice of the Rangers for the rest of the 2026–27 season, calling every home and away game beginning Friday, October 2nd.
A familiar voice to Rangers fans, Farwell brings extensive broadcasting experience, a deep connection to Waterloo Region and a passion for Rangers hockey to the microphone.
“We are really glad to be able to get him back on the radio, said Scott Jensen, President of FM 985. His return ensures fans can follow every goal, save, and every memorable moment throughout the season, whether the team is taking the ice at The Aud or on the road.”
“We’re thrilled that FM 985 (CKWR) has selected Mike Farwell as the voice of Rangers hockey and that he’ll once again be behind the microphone for us,” said Joe Birch, Chief Operating Officer and Governor of the Kitchener Rangers. “Mike has a strong connection to our team’s history, our fans and the Waterloo Region community. We know how much his voice means to Rangers fans, and we’re excited to have him calling every home and away game this season.”
The announcement builds on the Rangers’ broadcast partnership with FM 985, giving fans a familiar voice to accompany the defending Memorial Cup champions through the 2026–27 campaign.
“I love that a locally operated, community-forward radio station has earned the chance to broadcast Kitchener Rangers hockey, and the games sound great! But it’s been really weird to just be a listener. I can’t wait to get back into the broadcast booth and turn on that microphone Friday night,” said Farwell.
Farwell’s first broadcast will be Friday, October 2, when the Rangers host the Saginaw Spirit at 7 p.m. for Oktoberfest Night at The Aud.
