Petes acquire Brett Hammond and Garrett Frazer from Erie Otters
The Peterborough Petes have completed a trade with the Erie Otters, adding forwards Brett Hammond and Garrett Frazer in exchange for defenceman Blake Gowan and a package of future OHL Priority Selection picks.
Peterborough brings in Hammond and Frazer, while Erie receives Gowan, North Bay’s second round pick in 2028, Brantford’s third round pick in 2028, and Ottawa’s fifth round pick in 2027.
Hammond, a 2006-born forward from Ottawa, ON, was originally selected first overall by the Otters in the 2023 OHL U18 Priority Selection. The 6-foot-3 forward has appeared in 149 career OHL games, recording 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists. This season, Hammond posted 10 goals in 27 games while serving as an alternate captain with Erie.
“Brett is a big forward who plays a gritty, two-way game,” said Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke. “He brings a physical presence, skates well, and will be strong on the forecheck.”
Frazer, a 2006-born right-shot defenceman from Haymarket, Virginia, joined the Otters as a free agent in 2025 after time in the BCHL, USHL, and NAHL. Standing 6-foot and weighing 188 pounds, Frazer skated in 71 games with Erie, producing three goals and 14 assists for 17 points. Like Hammond, he also wore an “A” this season.
“Garrett is a solid right-handed defenceman who is tough to play against,” Oke added. “He plays a very physical game and is someone opposing players take note of when he’s on the ice.”
Heading to Erie is 2008-born defenceman Blake Gowan, along with three draft selections. Gowan, a Kingston, ON native, appeared in 75 career games with the Petes, recording one goal and 16 assists for 17 points.
“On behalf of the Petes, I’d like to thank Blake for his time in Peterborough,” said Oke. “We appreciate his contributions to the team and wish him the best of luck as he takes the next step in his hockey career.”
From the Otters’ perspective, the move adds future draft capital while bringing in a young defenceman expected to contribute immediately. Erie General Manager Dave Brown and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve both acknowledged the leadership and impact Hammond and Frazer provided during their time in the Flagship City, wishing them success in Peterborough.
