Firebirds acquire Jacob Battaglia from Frontenacs in multi-pick deal

The Flint Firebirds have acquired forward Jacob Battaglia from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for eight OHL Priority Selection picks.

As part of the deal, Kingston receives a 2026 third-round pick (Windsor), a 2027 third-round pick (London), fourth-round picks in 2027 (Saginaw and Owen Sound), a 2028 sixth-round pick (Flint), second-round picks in 2029 (Flint and Niagara), and a 2029 fifth-round pick (Flint).

Battaglia joins the Firebirds after spending his entire OHL career with Kingston. The Mississauga, Ont., native was originally selected in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection and has appeared in 237 regular-season games, producing 209 points (92 goals, 117 assists) over three and a half seasons. He also added 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in 16 career playoff games and will finish his Frontenacs career 14th on the club’s all-time scoring list.

This season, Battaglia recorded 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 36 games with the Frontenacs. He is coming off a breakout 2024-25 campaign in which he posted a career-high 90 points (40 goals, 50 assists) in 68 games.

Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, Battaglia signed an NHL entry-level contract in March of 2025.

“Making a trade like this is never easy,” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. “Jacob is a great player and a great person who has represented our organization extremely well since he arrived. This move allows us to focus on our young core while recouping draft capital.”

Battaglia reunites in Flint with former Frontenacs teammates Chris Thibodeau and Mason Vaccari, as the Firebirds add a proven, NHL-drafted scorer to their lineup for the second half of the season.

The move gives Flint an experienced offensive piece for the stretch run, while Kingston adds significant draft capital as it continues to plan for the seasons ahead.
