Steelheads deal Jakub Fibigr to Spitfires for Carter Hicks, draft picks
The Brampton Steelheads and Windsor Spitfires have completed a trade that sees defenceman Jakub Fibigr heading to Windsor in exchange for defenceman Carter Hicks and three OHL Priority Selection picks.
As part of the deal, Brampton receives Hicks along with a 2026 second-round pick (Windsor), a 2029 third-round pick (Windsor), and a 2029 sixth-round pick (Windsor).
Fibigr departs the Steelheads after three OHL seasons with the club, beginning his career in Mississauga prior to the franchise’s relocation to Brampton. Selected 16th overall in the 2023 CHL Import Draft, the Unicov, Czechia native appeared in 146 regular-season games, recording 100 points (18 goals, 82 assists), while adding six assists in 11 playoff games. He wore an “A” as part of the Steelheads leadership group this season.
Drafted by the Seattle Kraken in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Fibigr has also represented Czechia at the 2025 and 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships, winning bronze in 2025 and silver in 2026 while serving as an assistant captain. This season, he posted 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists) in 27 games prior to the trade.
“Jakub has been a great Steelhead both on and off the ice,” said Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond. “We’re grateful to him and his family for taking the leap of faith to come to a new country at such a young age. He will always be a Steelhead.”
Coming to Brampton, Hicks is a 6-foot-1 defenceman from London, Ont., who was selected 24th overall in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection by Windsor. The 2008-born blueliner has appeared in 88 OHL games over two seasons, recording 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists).
The move gives Windsor an NHL-drafted, internationally experienced defenceman for the stretch ahead, while Brampton adds a young blueliner and future draft capital as it continues to shape its roster moving forward.
