Petes acquire Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton in trade with Sudbury
The Peterborough Petes have acquired forward Kieron Walton, along with a seventh-round pick in 2026 (via Flint), from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for defenceman Genc Ula and a package of future OHL Priority Selection picks.
Walton, a Toronto native, was originally selected by Sudbury in the second round, 28th overall, of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection and has spent his entire OHL career with the Wolves. The 6-foot-6 forward has appeared in 210 career OHL games, producing 88 goals and 112 assists for 200 points. Selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the sixth round, 187th overall, of the 2024 NHL Draft, Walton signed an NHL entry-level contract in April of 2025 following a standout 2024–25 season that saw him finish ninth in league scoring with 92 points. This season, Walton ranks among the OHL’s top scorers with 52 points through 33 games.
“We are very excited to welcome Kieron Walton to the Peterborough Petes,” said Petes General Manager Michael Oke. “He is an elite offensive talent who has consistently produced at a high level. His ability to create and capitalize on scoring chances will be a big asset for our group moving forward.”
Heading to Sudbury is Genc Ula, a 2008-born defenceman from Chappaqua, New York. Ula was selected by the Petes in the fifth round, 99th overall, of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection and has played 94 career OHL games over parts of two seasons, recording seven goals and 10 assists. He is eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft and brings size and physicality to the Wolves’ blue line.
“Genc is a defenceman we have highly coveted for the past couple of years,” said Sudbury General Manager Rob Papineau. “He is big, physical, and hard to play against. We’re excited to welcome him to Sudbury.”
Along with Ula, the Wolves receive five draft selections, adding significant future assets as they continue to build. Sudbury thanked Walton for his leadership and contributions to the organization, while Peterborough adds a proven, NHL-drafted scorer for the stretch run.
