Setting the stage for a Thanksgiving long weekend with the latest edition of OHL This Week!
310 OHL alumni on U SPORTS and NCAA rosters
A total of 310 OHL graduates are playing Canadian university and NCAA hockey to begin 2026-27, with 144 in U SPORTS and 166 in the NCAA. The Waterloo Warriors lead all U SPORTS programs with 14 former OHL players and the RIT Tigers lead the NCAA with 11, while the Flint Firebirds and Windsor Spitfires each have 32 alumni on collegiate rosters. A total of 268 graduates used their OHL Scholarship in 2025-26, part of more than $42 million contributed to the program by member teams since 2010. Read more
Attack visit Storm on Friday Night Faceoff
The Friday Night Faceoff spotlight shifts to the Sleeman Centre, where the 2027 Memorial Cup host Guelph Storm welcome the Owen Sound Attack at 7:07 p.m., live and free on FloHockey’s YouTube channel. Guelph has won four straight since getting its full lineup back from NHL training camps, outscoring opponents 21-3 over that stretch. Read more
Storm climb to No. 1 in the OHL Power Rankings
Four straight wins have carried the Guelph Storm to the top of the rankings, with the unbeaten Sudbury Wolves at No. 2 and the Brantford Bulldogs third. Read more
Musa, Nelson and Yakushevsky take weekly honours
Brantford’s Jason Musa is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week after six points (four goals, two assists) in three games, Ottawa’s Jaeden Nelson is the Mary Brown’s Chicken OHL Goaltender of the Week at 2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, and Windsor rookie Bogdan Yakushevsky is the Make Space OHL Rookie of the Week after scoring in all three games. Soo Greyhounds prospect Nick Soliman of the Stoney Creek Generals is the GOHL Prospect of the Week after facing 109 shots in two wins. Read more
Milestone Moments: Jovanovski, Roobroeck and the Otters make history
Guelph’s Zach Jovanovski became the first goaltender since 1997 to open a season with consecutive shutouts, teammate Ryan Roobroeck reached 200 career OHL points on Oct. 2 against Windsor, and the Erie Otters picked up the 900th win in franchise history on Oct. 4 against Kingston. Sudbury’s 5-0 start is the best in Wolves history. Read more

Otters to retire numbers of Strome, DeBrincat on Feb. 6 & 7: The Erie Otters will raise Dylan Strome’s No. 19 and Alex DeBrincat’s No. 12 to the rafters on Feb. 6 and 7, honouring the club’s all-time leading scorer and all-time leading goal scorer during the Otters’ 30th season and in conjunction with 2017 Championship Weekend. Royals colours return to Cornwall next weekend: The OHL heads to the Cornwall Civic Complex for the Seaway Shootout on Oct. 16 and 17, with the Brampton Steelheads wearing throwback Cornwall Royals jerseys from the club’s 1969 to 1992 era for both games. Game-worn Royals jerseys go up for auction through Dash Auctions in the days following the event, with proceeds to OHL Assists. Tickets are at ohl.ticketpro.ca. Read more
Islanders sign Storm’s Dravecky: New York signed Guelph defenceman Vladimir Dravecky to a three-year entry-level contract. The Trinec, Czechia, native was the Islanders’ fifth-round pick (141st overall) in 2026 and has four points (one goal, three assists) in four games with the Storm this season. Read more
Wright launches Wright’s Fight in Kingston: Kingston Frontenacs forward Landon Wright has launched Wright’s Fight in honour of his mother, Sandy, who began treatment in early September following a cancer diagnosis in mid-August. The initiative will support people and families facing the housing, transportation and treatment challenges that come with a diagnosis, while helping fund continued research. “You don’t fully realize how much it affects a person until it hits close to home,” Wright said. Fransen, Attack launch Franny’s Friends: Owen Sound Attack defenceman Max Fransen has teamed up with the club on Franny’s Friends, a program that invites Grey Bruce minor hockey teams to apply to have Fransen join one of their practices before the whole team attends an Attack home game. “I wanted to find a way to give the next generation of players an experience they can enjoy and remember,” Fransen said. Bulldogs add first-rounder Roberts: Brantford acquired 17-year-old forward Sam Roberts from the Oshawa Generals for four future OHL Priority Selection picks. The 6-foot-3 right-winger from Uxbridge, Ont., was Oshawa’s first-round pick (16th overall) in 2025. “He’s a big, heavy power forward who can skate and score goals in the paint,” said Bulldogs president of hockey operations and general manager Spencer Hyman. Generals bring Therrien closer to home: Oshawa acquired overage forward Jacob Therrien from the Owen Sound Attack for two conditional 2030 picks. The Courtice, Ont., native is entering his fifth OHL season with 93 points (46 goals, 47 assists) in 175 career games, and the move brings him closer to his hometown and support network, something the Attack identified as a priority in facilitating the trade. Thanksgiving fills the holiday weekend: The Barrie Colts host Kingston tonight for Pride Night and Thanksgiving Night, and the Brantford Bulldogs play host twice on Thanksgiving weekend, welcoming Kingston on Saturday afternoon and Ottawa on Sunday. Monday brings two matinees: the North Bay Battalion’s traditional Thanksgiving Day game against Peterborough and Pucks & Paws in Windsor at home to the Saginaw Spirit.
Storm salute the 1986 Platers: Guelph marks the 40th anniversary of the Platers’ 1986 Memorial Cup title on Friday against Owen Sound, with members of the team introduced in a pre-game ceremony and a video tribute before puck drop. “It will be a cherished and special moment for our team to reunite,” said Rob Holody, general manager of the 1985-86 club. Spirit host Ice Out Cancer: The Saginaw Spirit welcome Kitchener on Saturday for Ice Out Cancer, wearing specialty jerseys that go up for auction after the game.
Greyhounds collect for the hungry, then shake it off: Sault Ste. Marie hosts a pair of theme nights, starting with Hounds for the Hungry against Kitchener on Friday and following with Taylor Swift Eras Night against Peterborough on Saturday.
Wolves go back to the ’90s: Sudbury hosts Peterborough on Friday for ’90s Night presented by KiSS, with a bucket hat giveaway.
Spitfires head to a galaxy far, far away: Windsor wears specialty jerseys for Star Wars Night against Oshawa on Saturday.
Giveaways around the league: The Erie Otters hand out 1,000 magnet schedules presented by iHeartRadio when Ottawa visits Saturday, the Flint Firebirds have a magnet schedule giveaway against Sarnia the same night, and the Bulldogs close the weekend with a “Babsocks” giveaway Sunday against Ottawa.
Alumni Notes
Four graduates make their NHL debuts: Saginaw Spirit graduate Nikita Klepov debuted with the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 7 after a rookie season in which he led the OHL with 97 points (37 goals, 60 assists) and became just the third player in league history to win rookie of the year and the scoring title in the same season. Amadeus Lombardi (Oct. 1), Adam Jiricek (Oct. 2) and Cole Beaudoin (Oct. 6) also played their first NHL games. Read more
Bouchard off to red hot start for Oilers: London Knights graduate Evan Bouchard has opened the 2026-27 season in historic fashion, recording 11 points (6-5–11) through just four games for the Edmonton Oilers to become tied for the second-fastest defenceman in NHL history to reach the 10-point mark in a season. His league-leading six goals are also the second-most by a defenceman through the first four games of a campaign. 170 OHL alumni open season on AHL rosters: OHL graduates filled rosters across all 32 AHL clubs on opening night, led by 16 with the Belleville Senators. The London Knights lead all OHL clubs with 29 alumni in the league, followed by the Brantford Bulldogs franchise with 20. Read more
Lisson shines in collegiate debut: North Bay Battalion graduate Jack Lisson was named Atlantic Hockey America goaltender of the week after a 23-save shutout in his collegiate debut for Canisius, then came on in relief the next night and stopped all eight shots he faced in the third period and overtime.
