Wolves host Steelheads and Firebirds to conclude homestand
(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) After splitting last weekend’s double-header against the Owen Sound Attack and Ottawa 67’s, the Wolves remain in town to finish the second half of their four-game homestand. The Mississauga Steelheads visit Wednesday, October 18th, followed by captain Zacharie Giroux and the Flint Firebirds who enter the Nickel City for their only matchup at the Sudbury Community Arena on Friday, October 20th.
The Pack currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 4-3-0-0 record. David Goyette (SEA) leads the team in scoring this season with nine points (two goals and seven assists). Quentin Musty (SJS) returned to the lineup last week, making an impact immediately when he scored the overtime winner in Sudbury’s 3-2 win over Owen Sound. Import goaltender Jakub Vondras (CAR) has settled into OHL hockey nicely, owning a 2.20 GAA and a 0.909 save percentage through five games.
2024 NHL Draft prospect Kieron Walton leads all Wolves draft eligible players in scoring, recording five points (two goals and three assists) in seven games. Defenseman Andre Anania has emerged as a leader on the blueline, leading all Wolves blue-liners in points.
The Mississauga Steelheads, with a record of 7-1-0-0, sit atop the Eastern Conference. Their offense has been led by Luke Misa, who has produced 14 points in eight games. Mississauga’s roster features a young core this season, including the 5th, 6th and 13th overall selections in the 2022 OHL Draft; Porter Martone, Jack Van Volsen, and Lucas Karmiris. Sudbury hunts the Steelheads on Wednesday, October 18th, with puck drop set for 7:05pm.
The Flint Firebirds have struggled out the gate to start the season, sitting ninth in the Western Conference with a 1-5-0-0 record. Flint is home to five NHL prospects this season, Coulson Pitre (ANA), Gavin Hayes (CHI), Ethan Hay (TBL), Tristan Bertucci (DAL), and Nathan Day (EDM). Flint also named a new captain recently, awarding Sudbury native Zacharie Giroux the honour. The Wolves look to extinguish Flint’s flame
