Defenceman Luca Blonda Commits to Wolves
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves are proud to announce the commitment of Wolves first round selection in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, Luca Blonda.
“We are thrilled to have Luca commit to the Sudbury Wolves,” said Sudbury Wolves VP and General Manager, Rob Papineau. “He is a dynamic player with excellent skating and is an outstanding, puck-moving, right-shot defenceman who we know our fans will absolutely love. We welcome Luca and his family to the Sudbury Wolves.”
Luca Blonda was picked by the Wolves 12th overall in this year’s OHL Priority Selection from the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 15’s. This past season Luca registered 45 points with 15 goals and 30 assists through 55 games played. The blueliner also finished the season with a plus/minus rating of 32.
“To be a Sudbury Wolf is like finding the gold pot at the end of the rainbow,” said Luca Blonda. “It is such a first-class organization and after meeting the staff, I can confidently say that they have one of, if not the best group of people running this organization. And the fans are so involved with the team, it feels as if you are not only playing for the team but all the fans in the stands as well.”
Sudbury Wolves scouts depict Luca as a smart transitional defenceman who can move the puck up ice and contribute on the offensive end while also being reliable on the defensive side. He is an elite skater, with a high compete level and passion for the game. He will do anything to contribute to his team’s success whenever he is on the ice with a winning mentality.
