Sting comeback is too little too late Friday night.

The Sarnia Sting made a furious comeback bid, scoring four times in the final period, but came up short, losing 7-4 to the Saginaw Spirit before a large crowd of 3,242 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, in the home opener.
Forward Ty Voit (Toronto Maple Leafs), scored his third goal of the season along with an assist to run his game point streak to three games. Zach Filak also had a goal and an assist for the Sting. For Filak it was his first goal of the season.
Alexis Daviault, with his second goal of the season, Ethan Ritchie, with his first and Nolan Burke with an assist, all ran their point streak to three games this season.
Angus MacDonell, Marko Sikic, Easton Wainwright and Ryan Mast (Boston Bruins) contributed in the Sting scoring with one assist each.
Sarnia out-shot Saginaw 26-20 and held a large advantage in winning face-offs, by a margin of 42-26. The Sting went 0/4, while the Spirit was a perfect 2/2 with the man-advantage.
Saginaw scored three in the first and four more in the second as Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas Golden Knights) had a pair of goals, to lead the Spirit. Dean Loukus, registered four points, which included a goal and Josh Bloom (Buffalo Sabres), had a three-point night.
Ben Gaudreau (San Jose Sharks), started in net for the Sting, stopping 6 of 11 shots, in 25:30 playing time, before giving way to Nicholas Surzycia, who finished the game making 7 saves on 9 shot attempts.
The Sarnia Sting, will be back on home ice on Sunday afternoon (October 9th) against the Soo Greyhounds, with puck drop at 2:05pm.
