Sting Complete Sweep in Windsor for Opening Weekend

For the second straight night, the Sarnia Sting played spoilers.
In Kitchener, the Sting took the Rangers in a 6-3 win and last night the Sting were victorious once again in a 2-1 overtime win over the Spitfires.
Ty Voit (Toronto Maple Leafs), made quick work of the overtime session scoring 19 seconds into the extra frame and the Sting came away with their second win (2-0-0) in the young OHL season.
SWARM WARNING – It’s the first time since 2018-19, that Sarnia has captured wins in their first two games from the beginning of a new OHL regular season.
After two scoreless periods in a tight checking game, that featured great goaltending at both ends from Sarnia’s Ben Gaudreau (San Jose Sharks) and Windsor’s Onuska, the third period would open up with both regulation goals.
Alexis Daviault, broke the drought with his first goal of the season, after being set up with a short pass from defenseman Ethan Ritchie. Ritchie notched the only assist on the goal and his second, in as many games. For Daviault it was his third point in two games. The goal came at 5:54 and put Sarnia up 1-0.
The Spitfires would tie the game with their only goal coming at the 7:31 mark. Noah Morneau scored shorthanded with assists from Jacob Maillet and Nicholas DeAngelis.
Nolan Burke started the winning score from deep in his own end and made a rink-wide pass to Ryan Mast (Boston Bruins) who then found Voit’s stick and buried the shot past goaltender Mathias Onuska.
Sarnia out-shot Windsor 28-23. The Sting went 0/3 and the Spitfires-0/2. Gaudreau stopped 22 of 23 shots and was named second star of the night with Ty Voit shining as the first.
Sarnia will host their home opener Friday October 7th against the Saginaw Spirit at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
