Sting Select Imports – Helt & Ruzicka
With the 47th overall pick in the 2016 CHL Import Draft, Sarnia Sting General Manager, Nick Sinclair selected Czech LW Filip Helt of HC Litvinov U18.
Helt was a 7th round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft after a strong 15/16 campaign with his junior club in the Czech Republic. In 42 games last season, Helt tallied 20 goals and 26 assists for a total of 46 points in 42 games played. At 6’1”, 194 lbs, the 98-born left-winger plays with a quick pace and has a knack for contributing offensively.
At 107th overall (Rnd 2), the Sting selected 6’4” Slovakian centreman, Adam Ruzicka. In 30 games with HC Pardubice U20 (CZE) last season, the Bratislava-native notched 14 goals and 30 points in 30 games played.
Labelled a two-way forward who skates extremely well, Ruzicka is a potential first/second round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In 7 games with Slovakia’s U18 squad last season, Ruzicka registered 5 goals and 4 assists for a total of 9 points.
