Sting Gut Out First Win in Series
The Sting were able to get right back in their Western Conference Quarter Final series vs. the Guelph Storm with a gutsy effort on Wednesday night at the SSEC.
The Sting battled to the win despite losing it’s two leading scorers before the game was even to it’s midway point.
Leading scorer Joey Tenute went out following a hard hit late and the first and then overage forward Kris Newbury was lost for the game after colliding with Storm forward Dustin Brown and going heavily into the end boards.
The game remained scoreless thru two periods of play thanks to strong goaltending at both ends by Sting rookie netminder Ryan Munce and Storm overage goalie Andrew Penner.
The Sting were finally able to take its first lead in the series when John Hecimovic (3) connected on a beautiful pass from Danny Fritsche 13:44 into the final period.
Munce and the Sting held off the Storm for the final six minutes to preserve the victory.
