Sting Fall To Petes
Sarnia, ON – The OHL schedule maker has not been kind to the Sarnia Sting in the past two days.
First last night it was the CHL’s fourth ranked team in Owen Sound visiting the SSEC and on Saturday night it was the East Division leading Peterborough Petes in Sarnia.
The night got off to a tough start when just 2:23 into the opening period veteran forward Jamie Tardif put the Petes on the board beating Sting goaltender Mike Iafrate.
The Sting would get the equalizer just 5 minutes later when rookie Steve Savor would score his second goal in as many nights finding the short side past Peterborough netminder Jeff MacDonald.
The Sting would continue to play a good first period keeping things even until with just 18 seconds remaining in the period the Petes would score when Greg Stewart connected with Jordan Morrison making it 2-1. The late goal would be a tough pill to swallow for the Sting who had played a good first period.
The second period would see Peterborough take over the game scoring twice on goals by Liam Reddox and Trevor Hendrikx giving them a 3-goal bulge heading into the third.
In the third the game was put on ice by the Petes when Jordan Morrision found the back of the net past Iafrate just 14 seconds into the period making it 5-1 Petes.
Sting forward Chad Painchaud would get one back for the Sting but unfortunately it was too little too late.
Mathis Olimb would continue his hot play of late assisting on both Sting goals.
The Sting will get set to serve up breakfast on Superbowl Sunday as the annual Season Ticket Holder breakfast will take place at the SSEC at 11:00. Season ticket holders must have already picked up a ticket in order to attend.
The next action for the Sting will be a rare Monday evening contest when the Erie Otters will be in town. Game time is 7:30.
