Sting Cruise Past Petes 7-3
Sarnia, ON – The Sarnia Sting and Peterborough Petes got together at the SSEC on Friday night for their only meeting of the season in Sarnia.
Head Coach Dave MacQueen entered the game with 398 victories as he closes in on the 400 win milestone.
Fortunately for MacQueen and the Sting he would leave the game with 399 career wins and the Sting added 2 more points to their total for the season.
The Sting would be in control throughout the game and were deserving in a 7-3 victory.
Justin DiBenedetto led the way for the Sting notching a hat-trick, while Ben O’Quinn had a pair, with Gregg Sutch and Jamie Arniel closing out the scoring.
Arniel’s goal, the 7th Sting goal of the game with just 10 seconds remaining on the clock, was met with enthusiastic applause for a pair of reasons.
The 7th goal enabled everyone in the building to receive a free hamburger at Harvey’s as well for Arniel it extended his goal scoring streak to 9 games.
Also of note on Friday night was the performance of Sting defenceman Mark Katic. Katic chipped in with an assist on the night but most impressively was a +5 for the game.
Rookie netminder Shayne Campbell turned aside 26 shots in earning his first career OHL victory.
The Sting will now turn their attention to Sault Ste. Marie. The Sting head to the Soo in search of another 2 points as well secure the 400th victory for Coach MacQueen.
