Sting Cap Near Perfect Weekend
Guelph, ON – The Sarnia Sting wrapped up it’s most successful 3 game in 3 day stretch on Sunday by handing the Guelph Storm their first loss at home since mid-January.
With a province wide audience on Rogers Sportsnet the Sting would come out of the gates all guns blazing building on a 6-goal offensive outburst the night before in Erie.
The Sting would strike for 3 straight on goals by Kyle Tront, Ryan McInerney and Harrison Reed.
Guelph captain Ryan Callahan displayed the skills and grittyness that makes him one of the league’s top performers as he scored the next 2 goals willing his team back into the game closing within just 1 of the Sting.
Rookie Brandon Mashinter who has stepped up with the increase in ice time received due to a rash of injuries continued his fine play, emerging from a goal mouth scramble with the puck snapping it high over Storm netminder Jason Guy restoring a 2-goal Sting lead.
In the third period it would be the Ryan Nie show.
The Sting goaltender who was 2-0-0 this weekend stood on his head making 23 saves in the period and 44 overall on the day.
The Storm were relentless buzzing the Sting zone but full credit to Nie along with his defence who were able to keep Guelph at bay before Harrison Reed would fittingly enough salt the game away scoring into an empty net making the final 5-3 in favour of the Sting.
For Reed it was his 2nd goal of the game and 8th point of the weekend.
The Sting return home and will take a well deserved day off on Monday before returning to practice on Tuesday in preparation for the club’s next game on Thursday when the Soo Greyhounds are at the SSEC.
