Sting And Storm Set To Battle On Sportsnet
A young group of Sting players get set to make their provincial wide television debut this afternoon as the Sting get set to face the Guelph Storm on Rogers Sportsnet to an Ontario wide audience.
The Sting go into this afternoons game off a wild affair last night in Erie in a game that saw them take a 4-0 lead, see that lead evaporate, scramble with some late dramatics to send the game to overtime, and then eventually fall to defeat in a shootout.
All of this for a team playing three games in two and a half days, and minus several regulars from it’s lineup including leading scorer Chad Painchaud.
Harrison Reed continued to increase his draft stock last night with another strong performance. Reed, ranked 63rd by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters may see his draft status rise as he has had an outstanding second half of the season.
Reed had a career best 5-point performance Saturday scoring 2 goals and adding 3 assists.
Ryan McInerney has also been one of the team’s top performers of late, chipped in with a goal of his own to go with 2 assists for a 3-point night.
Rounding out the Sting scoring with single markers were rookies Tomas Pospisil, Brandon Mashinter and Jared Gomes.
Pospisil’s goal extended a mini 2 game goal scoring streak.
Rich Clune continued his hot play with 3 assists.
Not to be overlooked Saturday night was the play of yet another rookie.
Goaltender Parker VanBuskirk made 51 saves and could have easily been named one of the games 3 stars despite allowing 6 goals.
