Sting Battle Ice Dogs To 1-1 Draw
Sarnia, ON – In a game featuring both goalies representing the OHL in the upcoming CHL/Russia Challenge you know goals would be hard to come by.
True to form Sting goaltender Ryan Munce and Ice Dogs netminder David Shantz provided their respective clubs with top notch goaltending seeing the two teams skate to a 1-1 draw Saturday at the SSEC.
Although there werent many goals to speak of, Sting fans were treated to a few end to end rushes by one of the league’s top players in Patrick O’Sullivan who would be thwarted by Munce each time.
The Sting would generate plenty offensive chances of their own as the game was not as tight checking as the score would indicate.
The Ice Dogs would get on the board first but not until the third as overage forward Tom Zanoski jumped on a loose puck and beat Munce with a wrist shot to the bottom left corner of the net.
The Sting would get it back as Captain Marco Caprara would break down the right side on a great individual effort and beating Shantz high over his left shoulder on a pretty back hand into the top corner.
The final 10 minutes of regulation and 5 minutes of overtime would see both teams with glorious chances to win but as they did all night Munce and Shantz shut the door.
The Sting will now take to the road for its next three, beginning with a trip to Owen Sound on Wednesday night to take on the Attack. Game time is 7:00 and can be heard live on the voice of the Sting, 1070 CHOK.
