Leufvenius Commits to Sting
Sarnia Sting General Manager, Nick Sinclair announced today that Import Draft pick, Hugo Leufvenius has agreed to terms on a Standard Player Agreement and will be joining the Sting for the upcoming season.=
Leufvenius was selected by the Sting in the 1st round of the 2017 CHL Import Draft (22nd overall) on June 28th. The 6’3”, 218 lb centreman spent the 2016-17 campaign with Linköping HC J20 of the Swedish SuperElit league. In 42 contests, Leufvenius posted 6 goals and 13 assists for a total of 19 points.
“We are pleased to have Hugo commit to the Sarnia Sting. He is a big kid with a great compete level and we believe that he will be a solid addition to the group we have coming back this year. He will bring an important element to the team with his combination of size, grit and hockey sense,” Sinclair says. “We’ve watched him play on the international stage for the last few years and were happy to select him with the 22nd overall pick. He’s anxious to come to Sarnia and be a part of what we’re building here.”
The 99-born Swede will join recent Calgary Flames draft pick, Adam Ruzicka as the second import on the Sting roster this season. Hugo is expected to travel to Canada in August in preparation for the 2017/18 season and will join his teammates at training camp when it opens on August 28, 2017.
