GAME REPORT | Sting Defeat Wolves in 5-4 Comeback Victory
The Sarnia Sting hosted the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
Completing what turned out to be a pair of weekend home games, the Sting had no intentions of falling to the Wolves.
In the first period, things did indeed get off to an interesting start. The Wolves scored three goals on Sting starting goaltender Aidan Hughes. Blake Murray, Drake Pilon, and Darian Pilon each popped one into the mesh. After the third one, Hughes was replaced by the other half of Sarnia’s dynamic netminder tandem, Justin Fazio.
Sting forward Anthony Salinitri rallied the troops. Salinitri scored his sixth goal in the last five games. With his twenty-fourth of the season, Salinitri went far side on Sudbury goalie Marshall Frappier.

The Wolves scored one more first period tally when Shane Bulitka picked up his seventh of the season.
Just eight seconds before the first period was due to expire, Sting captain Jordan Kyrou set the tone for the rest of the game. Kyrou made a hesitation deke to the left, then to the right, and wired the puck past Frappier. Ryan McGregor recorded the lone assist on Kyrou’s twenty-eighth of the year. It was 4-2 for Sudbury after one period of play.
In the second frame, the Sting flipped the scoreboard. While Sudbury controlled the majority of the opening twenty minutes, the Sting weren’t letting that happen again.
Less than two minutes in, Sting defenceman Connor Schlichting sent a point shot towards the goal that had eyes destined for the back of the cage. It was Schlichting’s sixth goal of the season. Suddenly, it was a 4-3 game.
Once more, as the period wound down, the Sting scored one late. Jonathan Ang hit the twenty-goal mark with an incredibly patient goal down low. Ang simply out-waited the Wolves goalie before calmly lifting a goal over an outstretched pad. Heading to the third, we had a tie 4-4 game.

The third period started out with a bang. About a minute in, Sting forward Sean Josling dropped the gloves with Wolves forward David Levin. It was a sign that the Sting weren’t having the Wolves come into town trying to steal two points.
Shortly after the fight, Sting forward Jordan Ernst scored the game-winner. Ernst finished off an outstanding passing play with Cam Dineen and Franco Sproviero. Today’s final score was a 5-4 victory for the Sting.
Fazio picked up the win in goal, adding to his already record-breaking season.
