GAME REPORT: Sting Blow Out Steelheads 8-1
The Sarnia Sting hosted the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night. It was a dominant Sting effort from start to finish.
Jordan Kyrou has been a point-producing machine since his extended stay at St. Louis Blues camp. Kyrou entered the evening with points in every OHL game he’s played this season, and continued the trend tonight.
Kyrou scored the game’s first goal with a chip shot that he sent straight into the roof of the Steelheads’ net. Hugo Leufvenius brought the puck into the offensive zone with some smooth stickhandling, sent a shot towards the goal, and Kyrou ended up gathering it before putting it past Mississauga goalie Jacob Ingham.
Kyrou would collect another point not long after, setting up Adam Ruzicka for a goal that is sure to be a play of the month.
Ruzicka received a pass from Kyrou just as he came streaking into the offensive zone. Once he had the puck, Ruzicka dangled between two Steelheads’ defencemen, deked around Ingham, and buried the goal. Scoring highlight reel goals has quickly become a regular occurrence for Ruzicka this season.
In the second, the Sting would extend their scoring ways.
Sean Josling scored his second of the year on a tic-tac-toe play. The goal began with Jordan Ernst, who sent the puck to Ryan McGregor, who found Josling for an easy tap-in.
Brady Hinz then scored while play was four-on-four, and the Sting were up 4-0. For Hinz, it was his fifth of the season, and, spoiler alert, first of the game. The Steelheads would score a goal of their own before the end of the second period, but Hinz would make his mark again in the third.
Hinz would score just two minutes in the third. This time it was on a powerplay. The second-year Hinz drew assists from Anthony Salinitri and Leufvenius, scoring his sixth of the season and second on the night.
Just a couple minutes later, Drake Rymsha made it 6-1 for Sarnia. Rymsha went top-shelf on Ingham. Connor Schlichting fed Rymsha with the primary assist, and Kyrou picked up his third point of the night on the play.
Anthony Salinitri extended Sarnia’s lead to 7-1 midway through the third. Salinitri fought for a loose puck behind the Steelheads’ net, spun and moved out front, and lifted one past Ingham. The Mississauga goalie was pulled following the goal.
Shortly after, Leufvenius would score the Sting’s eighth goal of the game. Kyrou sent the puck to Hinz down low, who passed cross-crease to Leufvenius and a wide open net.
Kyrou led the way with four points, Leufvenius had three, and Hinz had two goals and an assist.
Justin Fazio picked up the win in goal.
The final score in the offensive downpour was 8-1 for the Sting.
