The Sarnia Sting are back on home ice on Wednesday evening after travelling to Kitchener to face the Rangers on Sunday. The Sting are coming off two straight losses after falling to the Generals 5-3 and the Rangers 8-4 last week. The Sting enter the week with a record of 25-22-5-1 and now sit 8th in the Western Conference, 1 point back of the 7th place Flint Firebirds. The Sting will be back on the road this coming Thursday and Saturday when they head to Windsor and Flint, respectively. Tickets
STING NOTES:
Jordan Kyrou: Kyrou extended his scoring streak to 17 games with points in both games last weekend. Kyrou added a goal and four assists to his team-high total of 71 points. He is currently fourth in OHL points (71) and fourth in OHL assists (48) through 51 games played.
Filip Helt: Helt doubled his season total in goals with a pair in Sunday’s contest against the Kitchener Rangers. The Czech-native now has 4 goals and 16 points in his rookie campaign.
Drake Rymsha: Rymsha had his five game point streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon in Kitchener. He posted a goal and two assists on Friday night and now has 15 points in 13 contests since joining the Sting.
Jeff King: The overage defenceman registered two assists on Sunday afternoon, bringing his season total to 36 points through 52 games played. He is currently tied for 12th in OHL scoring among defencemen.
Adam Ruzicka: The draft-eligible centre scored in both games last weekend. He now has 18 goals and 34 points in 47 games played and is currently in 4th in the OHL rookie scoring race.
Kelton Hatcher: Hatcher left Friday’s game with an apparent upper-body injury. He is currently listed as week-to-week.
Kevin Spinozzi: Spinozzi is currently serving a 10 game suspension for his hit on Damien Giroux. He is eligible to return on February 25th.
The Sting will play host to the visiting Guelph Storm on Wednesday in the CMHA Talk Today game. This will be the 3rd of 4 meetings between the two teams this season, with each team winning a game so far. The Storm won the most recent game on December 28th by a score of 4-3 in overtime. The Storm currently own a record of 18-29-3-2 and are last place in the Western Conference. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
GUE Players to Watch:
Ryan Merkley: Merkley, the 1st overall selection in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection, continues a remarkable rookie campaign for the Storm as he currently sits 2nd in team scoring with 38 points in 46 games. The defenceman currently leads all rookies in scoring this season.
Albert Michnac: Michnac, a native of Czech Republic, is in his first OHL season and has recorded 28 points in 49 games, good for 5th in team scoring. He is currently riding a 4 game point streak where he has recorded 7 points during that span.
The Sting will travel to Windsor on Thursday evening to take on the Spitfires in the first of two divisional tilts this week. This will be the 3rd of 6 meetings between the teams this season, who have split the first two meetings with a win each. The Sting won the most recent meeting 6-5 in overtime on January 13th. The Memorial Cup host city Windsor currently own a 33-13-5-3 record and have a comfortable hold on 5th place in the Western Conference. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
WSR Players to Watch:
Aaron Luchuk: Luchuk is enjoying his best OHL campaign in his 3rd full season in the league, as he has recorded 46 points through 54 games this year, and is currently 2nd in team scoring.
Mikhail Sergachev: Sergachev, the 9th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, began the season with the Canadiens before being sent back to the Spitfires in November. Since returning on November 3rd, Sergachev has recorded 34 points in 36 games played.

The Sting will travel to Flint for their second divisional matchup of the week to take on the Firebirds on Saturday night. The Sting will look to string together 2 straight wins against the Firebirds after beating them 6-1 on January 27th. The Firebirds won the first 4 matchups between the teams prior. The Firebirds currently sit 1 point ahead of the Sting for 7th place in the Western Conference with a 26-21-1-4 record. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM.
FLT Players to Watch:
Ryan Moore: Moore continues his stellar season for the Firebirds, as he has now recorded 70 points in 52 games this season to lead the Firebirds in scoring, and is currently 5th in OHL scoring. He is currently riding a 6 game point streak.
Kole Sherwood: Kole Sherwood has taken his play to another level in his 2nd OHL season, as he has recorded 61 points in 44 games so far this year and is 2nd in team scoring.
