Sting Picks Recognized at GOJHL Awards Banquet
SARNIA, ON – Two Sarnia Sting draft picks collected hardware at the GOJHL Western Conference Awards Banquet on Monday night.
Braden Henderson, the Sting’s 6th round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection was awarded with the CIMCO Refrigeration award for the most outstanding first year defenceman in the league. Henderson, who has played in 6 games with the Sting this year, spent the majority of the 2016-17 campaign with the Chatham Maroons. The Baxter, ON native posted an impressive 7 goals and 39 points in 39 games during his rookie season with the Maroons and was also named to the All-Rookie Team for the GOJHL’s Western Conference.
2013 11th Round pick and Lambton Jr. Sting Alumnus, Brenden Trottier was also recognized on Monday night, earning the Hugh McLean Award for being the Conference’s top scorer during the regular season. With 80 points in 49 games played, Trottier was also named to the First Team All-Stars list.
The Sarnia Sting would like to congratulate both draft picks on their accolades and wish them the best of luck with the 2017 post-season getting underway on Thursday night. The Legionnaires will take on Leamington in the first round while the Maroons find themselves in a series against the St. Thomas Stars.
