2016 Orientation Camp: Day 2 RECAP

Sunday morning brought the 2016 Sarnia Sting Orientation Camp to a close with the final Black & White Scrimmage at the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre.

Prospects came out flying with a high-energy tempo early in hopes of catching the eye of the Sting brass as well as a number of Sting faithful in attendance. Team Black continued to draw off of Saturday’s success when free agent Cody Schneider put his team on the board just 1:02 into the opening frame. Dark jerseys continued to press on Team White when defenseman Matt Kellenberger nets an unassisted goal to put Team Black up 2-0.. Kellenberger, a Toronto native was taken by the Sting in the 7th round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection and played this past season as a member of the Toronto Nationals Major Midget AAA team of the GTHL.

Team Black never took their foot of the pedal and at 12:12 of the second frame free agent Sean Josling danced in alone with a slick breakaway backhand move to put Black up 3-0. The game was then put out of reach midway through the final frame when 2016 7th round pick Chase McLane stepped up for team Black to barry a nice wrist shot. However Team White did break the shut-out late when 2015 8th round pick Holden Hryksco scored with helpers from Colton Mckenna and Brady Hinz. As the final horn sounded Team black skated away with the 5-1 victory. Both goalie draft picks Anthony Bertucca (Quinte Red Devils) and Blair Coffin (Southern Tier Admirals) were solid between the pipes for Team Black all weekend.

Prospects will take their experience as well as some feedback from Orientation Camp with them into the off-season in hopes of developing what they need to crack the Sarnia Sting lineup come training camp in the fall.
