Liam Hawel headlines OHL Alumni receiving AUS Awards and All-Star Team recognition
A total of six OHL alumni are included in Atlantic University Sport year-end men’s hockey awards and all-star team recognition.
Most Valuable Player (Kelly Trophy) & Rookie of the Year (A.J. MacAdam Trophy): Liam Hawel, StFX X-Men
Former Soo Greyhounds, Guelph Storm and Kitchener Rangers forward Liam Hawel brings home top honours in the AUS, being named Most Valuable Player following a conference-leading 37-point campaign with 18 goals and 19 assists in 24 contests. The Arnprior, Ont. native led the X-Men to a second place finish in the regular season with a record of 17-5-1-1. In addition to being named Most Valuable Player, Hawel is also AUS Rookie of the Year as well as a First Team All-Star.
An OHL champion with the Guelph Storm in 2019, Hawel played five OHL seasons from 2015-20, recording 87 goals, 146 assists and 233 points through 313 career regular season games. He tacked on 21 points (7-14–21) in 42 playoff games and was a fourth round pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2017 NHL Draft. He graduated with The Kitchener Rangers in 2020.
