Game Preview: The Kitchener Rangers Begin a Three-Game Road Trip against the Flint Firebirds
KITCHENER, ON – The Blueshirts begin their road trip Wednesday night as they travel to Flint to take on the Firebirds at the Dort Financial Center with puck drop set for 7 p.m. Kitchener enters Wednesday looking to bounce back after a tough 6-0 loss to the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday. Wednesday’s contest marks the first meeting between the Rangers and Firebirds this season. The Blueshirts will look to pick up their first two points of the road trip and continue their strong start to the season.

Last Season/Recent Years
The Kitchener Rangers and Flint Firebirds are set to meet for the first time this season, with the two clubs looking to build on a competitive recent history. The Rangers and Firebirds split the season series in 2025–26, with each team winning two of their four meetings. The home team came away with the victory in all four matchups, including a 6–2 Rangers win at The Aud in their final meeting of the regular season. Tonight’s matchup will be the first regular season meeting between the Rangers and Firebirds this season. The two clubs are scheduled to meet four times during the 2026–27 campaign, with the next meeting coming on January 3rd at the Aud.
SCOUTING THE RANGERS:
The Kitchener Rangers enter Wednesday’s matchup against the Flint Firebirds after a rough 6-0 loss to the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon. Kitchener currently sits at 4-3-0-0 through seven games this season.
Alexander Bilecki has made a huge impact to start the season. The 18-year-old defenseman has registered six assists in his five games this season. The Maple Leafs second rounder from last year’s draft, recording 3 straight 2-assist games before his streak snapped on Sunday in Guelph.
Luca Romano has also gotten off to a hot start for the Rangers offensively to begin the season. Romano, who spent the start of the season with the Islanders in their club’s main camp, has responded in his return with a goal and 4 assists for 5 points in his first 5 games.
The Rangers have also received strong contributions throughout their lineup, with Cameron Arquette, Tanner Lam, and Avry Anstis each recording 5 or more points through the team’s first 7 games. The Blueshirts will look to grab 6 available points throughout the teams in the United States and Sault Ste. Marie swings.
Drafted Rangers:
The Rangers currently hold 4 NHL-drafted players on their roster. Luca Romano (NYI, 3rd Round) and Andrew MacNiel (MTL, 6th Round) were both selected in the 2025 Draft, while Alexander Bilecki (TOR, 2nd Round) and Charlie Puglisi (NSH, 7th Round) were picked in June of last year’s draft.
SCOUTING THE FIREBIRDS:
The Flint Firebirds enter Wednesday’s matchup looking to build off a 7–2 victory over the London Knights in their last game. Flint currently sits at 3-2-0-0 through five games this season.
Jimmy Lombardi has led the way offensively for the Firebirds early in the season. The 19-year-old forward has recorded two goals and six assists for eight points through five games.
Darian Anderson has also made an early impact for the Firebirds, recording seven points through five games, while Xavier Tessier has added three goals and five points in five games. James Paul has recorded four assists through two games, while rookie defenseman Lucas Nutting has gotten off to a strong start in his young OHL career, recording two goals and three points through his first five games of the season.
Flint is coming off a playoff appearance last season, where the Firebirds were eliminated by the Windsor Spitfires in the second round. The Firebirds will look to earn another two points on home ice when they welcome the Rangers to the Dort Financial Center on Wednesday night.
Drafted Firebids:
Flint has five NHL-drafted players on its roster. Three were selected in the 2025 NHL Draft: Jimmy Lombardi (LAK, 4th) was picked 125th overall, Rylan Fellinger (TOR, 6th) was picked 186th overall, and Trenten Bennett (NJ, 4th) was picked 99th overall. Two were selected in the 2026 NHL Draft: Nick Bogas (STL, 5th) was picked 139th overall, while Darian Anderson (NYR, 6th) was picked 163rd overall.
