February 9 Weekly Preview
The Hawks have a rare week with only one game in the next seven days, at home against the Tri-City Americans this Friday.
Look Back at the Weekend: Feb. 6-8
- Dominic Turgeon, Keoni Texeira, Keegan Iverson, and Skyler McKenzie recently visited their high school English teacher, Kyle Knight, and his family at home. In November, Knight was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but has since recovered and will be heading back to teach at Milwaukie High School later this month. Last week, the four players stopped by Knight’s house to wish him well and KOIN 6 captured the special visit — Click here to watch the video of the story.
- Hawks defenseman Josh Hanson hit a significant milestone on Sunday in Everett when he appeared in his 300th career game. The 20-year-old blueliner became just the seventh player in franchise history to play 300 games as a Hawk, joining Troy Rutkowski (351), Kevin Haupt (326), Taylor Peters (319), Todd Robinson (317), Layne Roland (313) and Brian Woolger (308).
- Defenseman Adam Henry had two assists on Sunday in Everett, and has now put up six points in his last six games. Henry, acquired from the Saskatoon Blades prior to last month’s trade deadline, has been especially good on the power play this season, as he’s tied for ninth in the WHL with 15 power play assists.
- Hawks netminder Adin Hill continues to lead all WHL goaltenders with a save percentage of 0.924. He’s stopped 1016 of the 1100 shots he’s faced so far this season, with a goals against average of 2.85 which gives him tenth place overall in the WHL in that category.
- Miles Koules is featured in a piece in The Oregonian written by Scott Sepich. Koules talks about his hockey career thus far, his experience as a member of the Portland Winterhawks, and where he hopes to go in his future – Click here to read.
Look Ahead: Feb. 9 – 13
- Hawks fans will have the chance to meet several players Wednesday at a Les Schwab appearance. Fans can come by the Les Schwab located at 8910 SW Barbur Blvd. from 4:30 – 6 p.m. to meet Oliver Bjorkstrand, Blake Heinrich, Anton Cederholm and Layne Viveiros.
- On Friday, the Hawks will host the Tri-City Americans for the first of three meetings this month. The Hawks have swept the series so far, winning all four games, but the two teams will meet for five more contests before the regular season is over. Oliver Bjorkstrand had a hat trick and an assist in their last matchup in Portland on Jan. 25 as he leads the Hawks with six points against the Americans in four games so far.
- March 6 is the deadline to buy raffle tickets to the Jerseys off the Backs promotion. Tickets are available at all home games, with lucky winners being invited down to the ice after the game on March 15 to receive the jersey right off the back of a Winterhawks player.
