Winterhawks recall Massey, Schlenker to active roster
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club today recalled defenseman Cohen Massey and goaltender Marek Schlenker to the team’s active roster as affiliate players.
Massey, 17, made his WHL debut in two games with the Winterhawks at the start of this season before being reassigned to the White Rock Whalers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL). There, he recorded 21 points in 25 games to rank second among the team’s defensemen and help guide the Whalers to third place in the Tom Shaw Conference. Originally selected by Portland in the ninth round, #191 overall, of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, Massey signed with the team on Sept. 19, 2022.
Schlenker, 17, put pen to paper with the Winterhawks this Wednesday after a stellar start to the season with the South Alberta Hockey Academy of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). Also a product of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft (8-170), Schlenker ranks third in the CSSHL with a .930 save percentage and fifth with a 2.33 goals-against average. The Okotoks, Alta. native recently competed in the prestigious Circle K Classic before the New Year with SAHA and backstopped an impressive .921 save percentage. The 6-foot, 165-pound goaltender was twice recognized as SAHA’s Player of the Game, claiming the honors on December 29 and 30, and led his team to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
Both players are eligible to play in 10 WHL games as Winterhawks affiliate players.
