Last Time Out
The Winterhawks secured a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against the Cougars on Tuesday, with Diego Buttazzoni notching the game-winner. Josh Zakreski extended his goal streak to three games, Ryder Thompson tallied his first of the season, and goaltender Ondřej Štěbeták made 30 saves to help Portland clinch the win.
Previewing Prince George: Scouting the Opposition
The Cougars come into tonight’s game hungry for a bounce-back win after falling to Portland in both of their recent meetings. In the first game at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Portland also snatched a 3-2 victory thanks to a last-second goal by Ryan Miller. Despite outshooting the Winterhawks 40-33 in that contest, Prince George couldn’t find the late-game heroics to match Portland’s.
Last night, Ziemmer led the charge for the Cougars with two goals, and Laing added his fourth of the season. Their aggressive play generated early pressure, as they recorded 12 shots in the opening frame. Goaltender Cooper Ravensbergen kept Prince George in the contest with 27 saves but couldn’t deny Buttazzoni in overtime.
The Cougars have shown they can create offensive chances, especially on the forecheck, but they’ll need to tighten up defensively if they want to keep the Hawks’ high-powered attack at bay. Ziemmer and Laing remain players to watch, while Kmec and Heidt are key contributors in generating scoring opportunities.
