Camp Confidential: Q&A with Jordin St. Louis
The 2024 Neely Cup Training Camp wrapped up on Saturday night. As the Winterhawks prepare for the upcoming season, we will continue to feature various Q&As with the players on Winterhawks.com. Next up, hear from first-round pick Jordin St. Louis.
How was your summer and what were some highlights?
Jordin St. Louis (JSL): “Summer was awesome. I had a ton of highlights. It was mostly just hockey and training, but I went to Phoenix a couple of times and went to the lake so that was fun.”
How does it feel being in Portland for your first Neely Cup Camp?
JSL: “It’s awesome, there’s a lot to learn. I can learn from the veterans and I think I should just take it all in. It flew by fast, so just trying to soak in the moments.”
How did it feel being a first-round pick in this year’s draft?
JSL: “It felt awesome. I kind of blacked out a little because I can’t even believe it happened. It’s such an awesome city and organization, and I’m so happy to be picked by this team.”
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
JSL: “Getting to meet everyone and develop myself as a player and just get better at the game.”
What was your offseason training like in preparation for the Neely Cup?
JSL: “I worked on a lot of strength and mobility and I think that can go a long way. If I do that and keep doing that going forward I think it can help me a lot.”
What skills did you focus on improving ahead of arriving in Portland?
JSL: “As a player, I need to work on getting more explosive so I can add lots of weight training and help build up muscle.”
If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
JSL: “Competitive.”
Who’s your favorite NHL player and why?
JSL: “I love the (Edmonton) Oilers so my favorite hockey player has to be Connor McDavid.”
