Big Weekend With Mascot Night, 100 Years of Hockey
The Winterhawks are hosting two big games this weekend, with Mascot Night Friday when the Hawks take on Seattle, and 100 Years of Hockey Heritage Night Saturday when the team hosts Vancouver. Both games will be at the Moda Center.
Mascot Night is one of the team’s most popular promotions, with dozens of local mascots coming to the Moda Center to entertain fans before and during the game. The mascots will also take the ice during the first intermission for their annual hockey game. Limited tickets remain at winterhawks.com, and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports.
Saturday is 100 Years of Hockey Heritage night. It’s been 100 years since the Portland Rosebuds took the ice, and the team is celebrating a centennial of hockey. Saturday the Hawks will wear special jerseys that pay tribute to Portland’s hockey history, with the jerseys set to be auctioned with proceeds benefiting the Winterhawks Amateur Hockey Association.
Prior to the game, the Hawks will raise a banner to the arena rafters commemorating championships won by Portland teams. There will also be a display of historical hockey memorabilia on the concourse provided by local hockey historian Scott Petterson. Throughout the game the team will also be showing footage and photos of important moments in Portland hockey history.
“This is a big weekend for Hawks fans, beginning Friday as fans of all ages always enjoy Mascot Night,” said Portland Winterhawks President Doug Piper. “Saturday’s 100 Years of Hockey Heritage Night will be a great opportunity for fans to re-visit great moments in Portland hockey history.”
Fans can still visit the Oregon Historical Society through April 1 to view an exhibit of hockey memorabilia dating back to the Portland Rosebuds’ inaugural season in 1914. The Hawks are also counting down 100 important moments in Portland Hockey history, which can be seen here.
