RECAP | Warriors battle but fall to Rebels
MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors battled but fell to the Red Deer Rebels at home on Saturday night.
The Red Deer Rebels opened the scoring not four minutes into the game with a tally from Kaden Meyer. Captain Brady Ness responded quickly with a toe-drag shot through traffic to beat Nathan Salisbury and even the score. Moments later, Red Deer’s Cole Temple was assessed a minor penalty for hooking, sending the Warriors to the mad advantage. Red Deer’s penalty kill stood strong to keep the game even. Back at even strength, Poul Andersen notched Red Deer’s second of the frame to once again give them the lead.
At the halfway mark of the frame, Luke Moroz struck back for the Warriors with his second of the season to once again even the score. The teams headed into the first intermission tied at two goals apiece.
Just before the six minute mark of the middle period, Red Deer’s Jake Missura was assessed a minor penalty for boarding and the Warriors landed on the power play. The Rebels stood strong again to keep the game even. At the midway point, following a boarding call to Connor Schmidt, the Warriors penalty kill stood strong to hold off the Rebels’ onslaught.
Following a high-sticking minor to Casey Brown, Red Deer’s Poul Andersen broke through again, this time on the power play, to put the Rebels up by one. Andersen completed his hat trick bid two and a half minutes later to put the Rebels up by two heading into the final period of play.
In the final frame, the Rebels notched the lone marker on the empty net with less than two minutes remaining to seal the loss for the Warriors.
In net, Jordan Switzer made 26 saves on 30 shots. Across the ice, Nathan Salisbury made 36 saves on 38 shots. The Warriors went one for two on the penalty kill and zero for two on the power play.
The Warriors hit the road next Friday, October 9th to take on the Saskatoon Blades. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm. Follow along with the action on Country 100 with James Gallo or stream for free on YouTube.
