Nagel settling into leadership role during sophomore season
MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Moose Jaw’s own Gage Nagel is settling into his sophomore season with the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Nagel’s rookie season ended prematurely, following an upper-body injury, leaving him to watch from the sidelines. But Nagel believes there were positives to come from the injury.
“[Watching from above ice level] helped me expand how I see the game,” said Nagel. “It was an opportunity to get better in the gym and get stronger.”
In his first game of the season, Nagel tallied his first WHL hat trick, including the overtime game-winner. Nearly two weeks later, Nagel continues to lead the team with three goals and four points through four games played.
“Doing whatever I can to help the team is [my] only goal,” said Nagel. “I try not to look too far into the points side of things and just keep doing the small [things] that make [me a better] player.”
Nagel was named to the team’s leadership group ahead of opening weekend, and he notes that wearing the “A” is not something he takes lightly.
“It means a lot,” said Nagel. “I hope I can show these guys how [important] hard work is… and how to be a good person on and off the ice.”
Following a 2-2 start to the year, Nagel notes that the team is united by one goal this season.
“We know what we have to do this year and there’s no excuses,” said Nagel. “We’re gonna make the playoffs and go from there.”
