Tigers Beat Raiders 4-2
Medicine Hat, AB – The Tigers hosted the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday, October 3rd for their lone match of the weekend. A rematch of the 2026 Eastern Conference Championship was bound to bring some excitement to Co-op Place.
The two teams played an even back and forth game in the first period, matching each other with 10 shots a piece in the opening frame.
Markus Ruck opened up the scoring with his first of the season off a pretty passing play. Liam Ruck sent a no look pass to Markus who passed down low to Tyson Moss. Moss then gave it right back to Markus who one-timed his first of the year to open the scoring at 7:09.
The Tigers doubled their lead with Reily Pickford‘s first career goal at 11:23. Markus Ruck fed Pickford in the slot who fired a perfect one-timer from a knee to make it 2-0 Tigers.
The Raiders answered back before the end of the period with Alisher Sarkenov’s third of the year at 17:37.
The Tigers held a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
A quick goal just 1:50 into the second period restored the Tigers’ two goal lead. Markus Ruck scored his second of the night off of a redirected pass from his brother Liam.
Medicine Hat dominated the shots on goal department in the middle frame, outshooting Prince Albert 17-5. The Tabbies spent so much time in the Raiders’ zone for the last 12:00 of the period, the chances just kept coming. Orsulak stood tall for the Raiders to keep the game close.
The final frame started off as more of the same for the Tigers as Gavin Kor scored his second of the year to extend their lead. An amazing cross-ice pass from Brayden Holberton gave Kor a step on the defender, and he cashed in on the breakaway opportunity at 5:58.
Prince Albert battled back for the rest of the third period, putting up a good fight against the Tigers to try and close the gap.
Owen Corkish’s second of the season came at 13:19 in reward of their efforts.
Despite Corkish’s tally and outshooting the Tigers 10-7 in the third, Prince Albert couldn’t close the gap and the Tigers held on for the win.
Carter Casey got the nod in net for the Tigers on Saturday night and had another great start. He stopped 23 of 25 shots faced and kept the Tigers in the game when the pressure turned up.
