GAME RECAP: Silvertips stage dramatic comeback in Brandon
BRANDON, Man. — The Everett Silvertips staged a comeback victory in Brandon, toppling the Wheat Kings 5-3 at Assiniboine Credit Union Place Sunday night.
The Tips trailed 2-0 at the end of the first, getting outshot 14-3 in the process. After killing off a double-minor penalty to start the second, Everett’s comeback began at 11:25 as Jaxsin Vaughan potted a powerplay rebound goal. Twenty seconds later, Luke Vlooswyk slipped a pass netfront for Rhys Jamieson, who knotted the score.
Lukas Kaplan’s first of the year at 18:27 in the second period gave the Silvertips a lead they would not relinquish.
Jamieson netted his second of the night on an extended powerplay, rifling a one-timer for his third goal of the East Division swing and fourth of the season.
Though the Wheat Kings brought themselves back within one at 10:57, Hunter Rudolph’s first goal of the campaign at 14:26 off a Lukas Kaplan rebound secured the victory for Everett. Bennett Byers stopped 26 of 29 in the win.
“Everyone’s here for a reason,” noted Rudolph, who had over 30 family members and friends in attendance from North Dakota. “You gotta have self-belief. I think that turned it around for us.”
“When you go to the net, good things happen,” commented Jamieson. “I think I’ve committed to that and it’s been working out.”
The Silvertips are now 4-6-3 on the season.
