Spring Development Camp Day Two Recap
Regina, Saskatchewan – Day Two of the Pats Spring Development started out with the goaltenders getting in some work with Goaltending Coach Rob Muntain before they were joined by the rest of the Pats prospects.
The Pats have placed a focus on building their back-end through the draft in recent years and those efforts are on display this weekend as the blueliners drafted in 2012 look towards making the Pats roster this season.
Defender James Hilsendager knows his best chance of playing in the WHL this season is to focus on training off the ice.
“I just need to work out every day… get stronger, faster and put myself ahead of the guys,” said the Pats 2012 ninth round selection. “I need to train and better myself and hopefully I’ll have a better chance than the rest of the guys at the end.”
Head Coach Malcolm Cameron is impressed by the prospects work ethic when it comes to adopting new concepts.
“They’re getting a lot of stuff thrown at them very quickly,” admitted Cameron. “They all seem very eager to learn and that’s half the battle, is the coachability factor. Between myself, Josh and Rob, the kids have been very receptive to learning new things so we think we’re in good shape that way.”
Rob Fulton holds the distinction of being the largest player in camp, standing around 6’3” and feels the best way he can impress the coaches is to use his size effectively.
“I’m just trying to keep my physical side going, I know (the coaching staff) likes that,” explained the Camrose, AB product. “I have to keep the puck moving and keep it positive in the room to be a leader.”
The Pats prospects will return to the ice tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Cooperators Centre.
