Spring Development Camp Day One Recap
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats opened their annual Spring Development Camp this afternoon with nineteen prospects, eight new to the organization, checking in and going through brief physical testing.
After a brief break, the prospects hit the ice for their first workout with the Pats coaching staff. Malcolm Cameron, Josh Dixon and Rob Muntain took the players through a set of drills to familiarize them with the Pats practice routines. The drills also give the coaches a look at where new prospects are in their development as well as the progress being made by returning players.
“The guys we saw last year we’re looking to see if they’ve made strides in a few departments,” explained Head Coach Malcolm Cameron. “Have they gotten stronger? What kind of commitment have they made off the ice to get better and then we’ll see the difference between now and when they come back in the fall.”
Goaltenders Nick Schneider (’97) and Kurtis Chapman (’98) are tasked with guarding the pipes this weekend facing down shooters in plenty of one-on-one situations during practice.
“It was really challenging I thought, but I felt it was a lot of fun,” said Schneider. “There were some really good players out there so it’s challenging, but I just try to play my game,”
The Pats will be back on the ice tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m. at the Cooperators Centre.
