REGINA — It’s often an exaggeration to suggest that someone has seen everything.
With Malcolm Cameron, it may not be a stretch at all.
The Regina Pats’ assistant coach played five seasons in the minors before coaching 11 seasons in hockey’s lower levels. From West Virginia to California, from Ohio to Texas, Cameron may very well have seen it all.
Take, for example, his first season in the pros with the East Coast Hockey’s League’s Huntington Blizzard.
“One day, our Zamboni driver didn’t show up for practice and our coach came in with a three-piece, pinstriped suit on,” Cameron recalled Monday before the WHL’s Pats practised at the Brandt Centre. “He drove the Zamboni with the suit and his skates on.
“He then proceeded to run practice with the suit on. Then, after practice, he sharpened skates with a cigarette in his mouth and wearing his skates and the three-piece suit. I have no idea why.”
