Pats Continue to Roll
First Period
The opening frame didn’t hold the nastiness that characterized the previous meeting between the Pats and the Warriors, but there were plenty of penalties. The Pats powerplay had four opportunities to ply its trade, but despite some good scoring chances, couldn’t cash in. Boston Leier came the closest, but couldn’t beat the post as he rang the iron. Both goaltenders were solid through the first twenty minutes as Justin Paulic made eleven stops while Dawson MacAuley turned the Warriors away nine times.
Second Period
The middle period saw the Pats find their scoring touch. After killing off a penalty to start the frame, Marc McCoy found a rebound in front of Paulic and was able to force it past the Moose Jaw goalie to open the scoring. Five minutes later, the powerplay finally broke through when Morgan Klimchuk walked into the faceoff circle and sniped his sixth of the year. In the Pats goal, Dawson MacAuley was forced to come up with some good saves when Jack Rodewald redirected the puck on net, and Travis Brown ripped a shot off Kyle Burroughs’ skate. The Prince Albert, SK product held the line and the Pats powerplay would reward his efforts. Connor Gay poked a Dmitry Sinitsyn rebound past Paulic to put the Pats up 3-0. Max Kammerer earned his first WHL point with an assist on the goal.
Third Period
The Pats added another insurance marker early in the period as Chandler Stephenson sent Dyson Stevenson in behind the defence and Stevenson managed to slide the puck under Paulic for the 4-0 lead. The Warriors would work their way back into the game when, with Dyson Stevenson in the penalty box, Brayden Point put a rebound by MacAuley to break up the shutout bid. Moose Jaw added one more goal late as Alexey Sleptsov sent Colton McCarthy in alone and he was able to get his own rebound by the Pats netminder to bring the Warriors within two with 18 seconds left.
