PREVIEW
The Regina Pats are looking for a crucial victory on home ice today before heading on the road tomorrow to take on the red hot Swift Current Broncos. The Pats have dropped their last three games, and are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday at the Brandt Centre.
The final score would not tell the whole story of the game, as the Pats and Raiders were in a scoreless tie through one, and in a one-goal game after two. The Pats outshot the Raiders in all periods expect the first, and outshot their opposition 28-20 in the final two frames. Tanner Howe scored in his return to the lineup, and Kelton Pyne made 30 saves in the loss. The shots were 35-33 for the Raiders. The Pats went 0-2 on their power play and 3-5 on their penalty kill.
The Medicine Hat Tigers on the other hand have won their last two contests, and have strung together four victories over their last five games. The Tigers are coming off a 4-3 come-from-behind shootout win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary had a 3-1 lead at one point. After the Tigers made it a one-goal game in the second, Hunter St. Martin tied it in the third. Carter Cunningham and Gavin McKenna (1G-1A) also scored for the Tigers in the win while Harrison Meneghin made 37 saves. The Hitmen were 3-5 on their power play while the Tigers went 0-4 on their power play. The final shots were 43-40 for Medicine Hat.
WHO TO WATCH
Tanner Howe came back to the lineup on Wednesday, and scored his second goal of the season. In limited action due to injury, Howe has two goals in three games after scoring 28 times last year, and 35 the year prior.
Gavin McKenna leads the entire Western Hockey League in points this season, and is tied for first in assists, recording 23 points (7G-16A) in 14 games. McKenna also has points in five straight games (5G-5A-10PTS).
