Pats Import Pick Svozil on his Way to Regina
Regina, Sask. — The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned 2003-born defenceman Stanislav Svozil (Prerov, CZE) to the Regina Pats.
Svozil, 18, was recently selected in the third round (#69 overall) by the Blue Jackets in the 2021 NHL Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with Columbus on August 20. Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen was impressed by the youngster and spoke about him last week.
Draft picks Boyd (Charlottetown), Bjorgvik-Holm (Mississauga), Malatesta (Quebec), Rysavy (Moose Jaw), Svozil (Regina) will head to their CHL teams, while Despatie, Keane, Lawrence, Reynolds and Woolley have been released from tryouts. #CBJ

Originally drafted by the Pats in the 1st round (15th overall) of the 2020 CHL Import Draft, Svozil heads to Regina following a 2020-21 campaign where he tallied one goal and two assists for HC Kometa Brno in the Czech professional league. Svozil appeared in 71 career games over two seasons with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga, making his pro debut in 2019-20, That season, he was named the Czech Extraliga Rookie of the Year after notching two goals and three assists for five points in 41 appearances with Brno.
The 6-foot-1, 182 lb. defenceman represented the Czech Republic at several international tournaments, most recently at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championships and 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships. He also skated for the country at the 2019 World U17 Hockey Challenge (bronze medal) and 2019 Ivan Hlinka Memorial.
